As of 1st November 2016, pharmacies and dispensing companies will not be able to order medicines on your behalf, and you will need to order your repeat prescription directly from your GP. There are different ways to order:
- Handing in the white, tear-off part of your repeat prescription to your surgery
Patients will need to order their repeat prescriptions from their surgery when you have 7 to 10 days of medicines left. Please remember that the surgery needs 2-3 working days to issue a prescription so please don’t leave it until the last minute.
This is happening to increase patient safety as your GP can monitor and discuss with you what medicines you may need and no longer need. This change greatly improves patient safety and also gives the patient much more control of their medicines.
Under the old system some patients built up a stock of unused medicines, so we can also save money by reducing medicine waste that can be used on healthcare for more Wakefield residents.
If you need more help understanding these changes, please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0800 0525 270 (open 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday).
